MARSEILLE – SPARTAK MOSKVA

Referee: Proença (POR)

MARSEILLE

Doing very well in the “Championnat” lately, Marseille will try to get the job done in the UEFA Cup too, even though we all remember well the defeat from Liverpool (4-0 at home). Eric Gerets’ team will certainly go for the win over Spartak so as to have more options later on. As the team’s coach said, “If the other midfielders didn’t know how Nasri plays, we would be in big trouble. But Cana and Cheyrou are doing a great job. At first, you can see that Benoit’s (Cheyrou) job is quite tough, having to defend a lot, but he can play very freely when attacking.”

Central defenders Faty and Givet will start the game, as Rodriguez is still injured. Same thing for Zubar, which means that Bonnart and Taiwo will play on the sides. Inner midfield Ziani will be absent, as well as Akalé and Grandin (these aren’t really problems). Cana and Cheyrou will definitely be the best option in midfield. As far as Nasri is concerned, the international player will be at Geret’s disposal and will probably play with the starting team. If this is the case, then Valbuena will start too. If it’s not, then Valbuena will play at Nasri’s place, with Oruma supporting him. Whatever happens, forwards Cissé and Niang will be N1 oprtions.

Starting 11: Mandanda – Bonnart, Faty, Givet, Taiwo – Cana (cap), Cheyrou, Oruma (or Valbuena), Valbuena (or Nasri) – Cissé, Niang

Substitutions: Carasso (g), Krupoviesa, Sabo, Barillon, Zenden, Kaboré, Nasri

SPARTAK

The Russians are at the second place of their championship, but haven’t started the year very well. In the UEFA Cup, they have already lost from Toulouse (2-1 at home), even if this doesn’t really matter, as they had already qualified wining Leverkusen (2-1) and Zurich (1-0). In a friendly match, Spartak won easily Belgrad’s Red Star (5-2).

With the exception of Deruda, coach Stanislav Cherchesov doesn’t have any problems with all his players at his disposal for tonight’s game at the “Velodrome” Stadium.

Starting 11: Khomich – Stranzl, Jiranek (cap), Filipenko, Soava, Mozart, Maidana, Gorbatenko, Titov, Welliton, Pavlyuchenko

Substitutions: Pletikosa (g), Kovac, Shishkin, Pavlenko, Kalinichenko, Dineev, Prudnikov

ANDERLECHT - BORDEAUX

Stadium: Parc Astrid
Referee : Tagliavento (ITA)

ANDERLECHT

Things aren’t going so well for the team this year, as A.Jacobs’ players have led it only to the 5th place, disappointing their fans. The thing is, even if they are 11 points behind the leader (and their big rival), they have won two consecutive games in the championship. This has mostly a psychological impact on the team that will face Bordeaux today (who has won all of the previous UEFA games). Anderlecht’s qualification wasn’t that easy, as the team had to win at her last game and Hapoel Tel-Aviv had to lose. As midfielder Gillet said, “This is the most important game in my whole career. […] I am really not very familiar with Bordeaux. I watch Telefoot, and I know their forward from Argentina, their goalie and Micoud, but don’t ask me how they play.”

The big trouble for Anderlecht will be the lack of forwards, as Nicolas Frutos is injured and new arrivals, Pieroni (from Nantes) and Vlcek aren’t qualified for UEFA Cup’s games. Ahmed Hassan, who has recently won the CAN with Egypt, has not returned yet. On the contrary, forward Chatelle will play.

Other absences: Legear, Deschacht, Iakovenko

Starting 11: Zitka (cap) – Wasilewski, Pareja, Juhasz, Van Damme, Biglia, Polak, Gillet, Boussoufa, Chatelle, Akin

Substitutions : Proto (g), Goor, Sare, De Man, Gillis, M.Mpenza

BORDEAUX

Many people say that Bordeaux is not in good shape, even though L.Blanc’s players won Metz (3-0) on their last game. Some say that they were lucky. The truth is that they somehow have a lack of creativity in producing quality game. But it seems that everything is in place for today’s match. From a psychological point of view, everybody is ready, as their last 4 Uefa games were a success. But they also seem to be prudent, as Anderlecht has already won over them in the past. It was in 2002, with a 2-0 in Chaban-Delmas, before the 2-2 game.

Bordeaux has a complete superiority as far as quality and technique is concerned, but Anderlecht has nothing to lose and will play creatively, freely.

Midfielder Fernando is injured, as well as central defender Planus (22/1) and defender Jemmali (7/0). Same for Tremoulinas, who is not very important. Forwards Bellion (11 goals), Chamakh (2 goals) and Cavenaghi (6 goals) are ready, even though the first one is quite tired. Bordeaux will not stand with all its best elements. There is a possibility that midfielder Micoud (18/2) stays on the substitution’s bench, as well as Alonso (21/0).

Starting 11: Ramé (cap) – Chalmé, Henrique, So.Diawara, Marange - A.Diarra,. Obertan, Ducasse, Wendel – Chamakh, Cavenaghi

Substitutions: Valverde (g), Brégerie, Jurietti, Alonso, Micoud, Ab.Traoré, Jussie, Bellion
